Tiger Riot, Look Up!

Tiger Riot - Look Up!
Record Label: Brookvale Records
Release Date:January 18, 2011

Who?

Emerging from Long Island, New York, Tiger Riot is a band that is unafraid to show they are in great company. Breaking out onto the scene with an EP mixed by Casey Crescenzo is no small feat and the resulting sound is definitely grand enough to deserve the attached name.

How is it?

The opening track, "Time Is On Your Side" doesn't take long to plunge you into a sublime combination of clean, accessible vocals from Christopher Tagliaferro in the style of something akin to The Graduate's Corey Warning, while reaching a love of instrumental theatrics that tells of the obvious The Dear Hunter influences throughout the record. The opener is one of the slower pieces on the EP as the following track "Damn These Electric Sex Pants!” adds a certain amount of urgency with bursts of synth that manage to accentuate the rather jazzy feel that is exhibited by the choppy guitars and ringing vocals during the chorus. Fans of The Audition’s Champion will enjoy the instantly infectious “These Awful Words”; a song that rids any doubt of the lack of The Dear Hunter influence being consistent throughout the record, complete with hints of organ work and body-moving drum beats from Fred Ardis make the track easily one of the most memorable. The album gets a little flashy with the delay addled parts of “Starship Troopers: The Shower Scene” that feel just a tad superfluous when compared to the solid content of the rest of the record; but this calls more to the quality of the record than it does the lack of it in the song. Overall, Look Up! is an EP that most bands could only dream of introducing themselves with. Coupled with fantastic influences and enough variety to keep the sound interesting, Look Up! feels like an aptly named record as it truly is the only direction Tiger Riot should be seeing after this.

Recommended If You LikeThe Dear Hunter, The Graduate, The R&B feel from The Audition's Champion

Thanks for the correcting to the release date and the label, I couldn't find any real concrete info on this band and was under the impression they had no label when they released this for free.

When we released this EP back in May, we were unsigned. This August we signed with Brookvale records, who will be re-releasing Look Up! as a full-length which will include 3 new songs! Just clearing the air on that.

Thanks so much for the review; your opinions are accurate and flattering!

Edit: Look Up! will be released January 18, 2011. Keep your eyes and ears opened.
