And Gaga is a stronger studio vocalist. They're both pretty meh live.

And the creativity of her songs is smoke and mirrors. The structure, the production, the hooks, none of it is new. It's actually quite familiar. What makes it seem different is the fact that she always throws in some bizzarro line ("Ra ma ah ah ah" or "p-p-p-pokerface" so it feels like something you haven't heard before.

Neither artist is reinventing the wheel.

You don't think Bad Romance would be a huge hit without the costumes and hats? Just Dance was a huge hit before people know her persona as well.

While you're right about the structure/production/hooks wouldn't the fact that something feels different mean it is different? The same old structure with a creative new feel to it is surely more worthwhile than the same old structure with the same old feel.

I like Lady Gaga, and she's talented and all, but she's far from original. She's just a successful, calculated Madonna copy with some dadaism thrown into her outfits and videos.

Not that being unoriginal is inherently wrong, of course. If it's done well, roll with it. Before anyone comes in here and points it out, I like a lot of unoriginal stuff. I only get annoyed sometimes with the Gaga love because she's somehow convinced everyone that she's this new, revolutionary pop artist. She's a talented vocalist and pianist, and she's been very influential in the rise of absurdity in mainstream music video, etc., but at the core she's still a calculated new Madonna.

Sure, no problem. It's really well done, especially the mix. They must have worked extremely hard at the mix both live and on the production to get it to sound so good.
