i'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but i think that once all is said and done, ben roethlisberger should and will be considered to be on the top half of this list.

Completely agree and that's not just because I love the Steelers. Saying he is already on there right now is a little bit much but he definitely will be when his career is over.
Troy Aikman and Steve Young. Those two players are listed at #80, and you're saying he is going to be 30 spots better than those two? He's a good quarterback and some day he might make the list, but at this point projecting him that much higher than those two is nuts.

Emmit Smith should be top 15. Barry Sanders I personally didn't play that long to be put so high. John Elway while being good shouldn't be put that far ahead as Steve Young.

there's a lot about this list i don't agree with haha. steve young should also probably be on the top half, but if you look at it from a strictly passing-based perspective, roethlisberger is significantly better than aikman (based off of passer ratings). he had the highest passer rating of any rookie ever, and won a slew of games to start his career, alongside two super bowls. he knows how to take a hit, and how to avoid them to make plays happen where other quarterbacks would throw the ball away or just go down. he's done this with lines that have been less than stellar. if he had the sort of linemen that players like tom brady and peyton manning are blessed with, he would easily blow them out of the water (speculation, but whatever). i'd say that considering what he's done so far, he definitely belongs up there.

Teams with most players in top 100

1978 Steelers: 6
1958 Colts: 5
1966 Packers: 5
1995 Cowboys: 5
1976 Raiders: 4

Six teams account for nearly half of the 100. Voters seemed a bit biased.

Well that's what I was saying. Not now, but by the end of his career it's definitely possible

what current players NOT on the list do you think either deserve to be on it or will one day be on it?

T.O., Champ Bailey, Adrian Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Polamalu, Patrick Willis

i think polamalu definitely should be on the list already. possibly champ bailey as well.

i agree that willis will likely be in the discussion when all is said and done as well.

Edit: Is it just me or shouldLaDainian Tomlinson not be on this list?

if anything, he should be higher.

man, deion sanders at 34 is really high

i think that's a little low for him, honestly. i'd have him in the top 20.

by the same justification of gale sayers being 22, shouldn't steve young be much higher than he is? if we're completely discounting longevity for one player, how are we ranking steve young lower than troy aikman

steve young should definitely be a lot higher.

Jim Kelly isn't one of the 100 greatest NFL players? All credibility gone.

he should be. he's definitely one of the obvious ones left off. he should be right about where warner is. i love warner, but wouldn't put him in top 100.

Emmit Smith should be top 15. Barry Sanders I personally didn't play that long to be put so high. John Elway while being good shouldn't be put that far ahead as Steve Young.

10 seasons isn't long enough?

especially when in those 10 seasons, you amass 10 pro bowl selections, 6 first team all pros and 4 second team all pros, an mvp and two opoys, and an oroy?

barry sanders should be top 10.

am i crazy to say that if i were to pick a cb between deion sanders and champ bailiey i'd pick bailey?

i think so.

i think deion is far and away the best to ever play the position.

you don't discredit deion at all for his lack of tackling?

no, because i think his lack of tackling is very overblown.

he was lucky to be on some great defenses where a lot of plays didn't get to him, so he wasn't forced to tackle a lot. when he needed to, he did.

was he the best tackler to ever play the position? no. but did he make the tackles when he needed to? most the time, yes.

i think his ability to shut down an entire side of the field, and constant threat to put six on the board on any given play more than make up for it.

he and woodson redefined the position, and to an extent, defensive mentality league wide.
