Short Stack - This Is Bat Country
Record Label: Sunday Morning Records
Release Date: November 12, 2010
Love them or loathe them, the boys from Short Stack are back with a brand new album. This time round the boys from Budgwoi show a far more mature and evolved sound.
The album kicks off with the title track "This Is Bat Country" introducing you the almost old time western styled guitar riff and synth laced hooks. A theme prevalent thought the album. While this is a good opening track it tends to drag on a bit for an opener. This is seamlessly followed by the first single off the album "Planets". It begins with a softer and melodic opening few lines before once again kicking in with the usual synth and guitar induced hooks.
Whilst a dip in "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?" it picks right back up with "Werewolves" and the second single from the album "We Dance To A Different Disco Honey". Previously released singles "Sweet December" receive a touch up and just another fantastic cut from the album sure to be played on stereos and radio stations across Australia this summer.
Lyrically the album shows much progression from last years Stack Is The New Black. A new sense of maturity is found throughout. One thing evident throughout is the production given on the TIBC is top notch. The sound of the drums to the use and quality of the synth sounds fantastic.
While this album may not be a huge departure from SITNB its definitely proven that they can write more powerful and mature songs, something that will probably garner many new fans whilst appeasing the already rabid fanbase.
