I completely understand George not wanting to be associated with all the other "screamo" bands. It's much like the guys from Get Up Kids not wanting to be called "emo." Too many shitty bands and haircore kids giving the genre a bad name.
It's too bad, cause I loved George's screams. Not such a huge fan of the gruff vocals on Old Crows/Young Cardinals.
It seems from the interview that at one time they would have considered themselves screamo. Which to my knowledge, they never were. I hate having to clarify when I mention "real" emo and screamo but what kind of genre do I say I listen to when I'm talking about The Saddest Landscape, Cap'n Jazz, Portrait, Snowing, etc.?
Meh...screamo to me is Saetia, Raein, older Envy, Dark Day Dawning, and Cowboys Become Folk Heroes...hell, even Thursday. Alexisonfire never struck me as that, besides for their first album, which, in my opinion, is their weakest.
