This is exactly why I can't start a vinyl collection. What's that, at least 500 dollars worth of vinyl?

I wish it was only that much, it's easily over $1,000.

I haven't bought a bunch of my own--although I plan to a lot more soon once I get some stuff paid off--but I inherited a bunch from my dad (he's not dead, he just doesn't listen to them anymore). I've got a lot of classic stuff from him (Zep, Floyd, Beatles, Dylan, Chicago, Eagles), but here's what I've bought so far:

New:
blink-182 - They Came to Conquer Uranus 7"
The Gaslight Anthem - American Slang 180g
Green Day - Live in Italy '93 bootleg
The Tallest Man on Earth - The Wild Hunt
The Tallest Man on Earth - Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird EP (12" 45rpm)
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance white 2xLP

Used:
Bruce Springsteen - Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ
Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Bruce Springsteen - The River
Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska
(Dad already had Darkness and Born in the USA)
The Who - Tommy

Even more reason. I took a wild guess on how much it was.
I can barely buy my own MP3s, how do you expect me to get vinyl. I mean, I have my mom's record player, but I see value in doing that rather than getting MP3s.

If you shop around (especially look at band/record label sites), you can vinyl for cheap. Example off the top of my head: Saddle Creek sells a lot of their LPs for $11-13 and you get immediate free mp3 downloads to go with them. Best of both worlds! I'd say the $1-3 price difference is more than worth it for what you get.

Thursday – Counting 5-4-3-2-1 single 7”

I have this too--didn't include it in my list because it slipped my mind at the time--and actually just listened to it for the first time in a looong time. The B-side of that single ("Even the Sand is Made of Seashells") is pretty great.

If you buy them over time it really isn't too bad at all. I just do it to support the smaller bands that I like in most cases. Honestly, if you end up thinking you wasted too much money on vinyl (and you buy vinyl from bands that aren't huge), then you can flip it for way more than you bought it for. Doesn't work for buying shit that is /5000 on a single color though haha.

Maybe I'm just greedy, but I've never understood the whole vinyl flipping thing (just like I've never understood people who sell their CDs, or perhaps more analogous, rare memorabilia). I buy records from bands I like because I want to play them and eventually pass them onto my kids. There are a hundred things I own that I would sell before the thought of parting with music even crossed my mind.
