One of the greatest songs of all time, and not a bad cover of it, but you really need a certain kind of voice to pull it off. I just think it should be left alone after Buckley did it, no one can top that.
Trouble is, every cover of this song is always a cover of the Jeff Buckley version (in influence terms anyway). It's not a bad thing. But I find it a bit silly when people say they cover Leonard's original version without name checking Jeff, when they've probably been massively influenced by Jeff's version.
Bazan's version takes the cake for me. Love both the original and Buckley's as well. Anyone looking for some real "haunting" Christmas music should check out David Bazan's Christmas music...ESPECIALLY "Silent Night" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"
