2010's album sales were terrible. Lowlights: Only 13 records sold over a million copies (and only 4 of those sold over 2 million copies). The highest selling album went to Eminem, which sold 3.4 million copies. An impressive sum, until you think about his Marshall Mathers LP selling 10 million copies a decade ago. Is anybody else sick of hearing that the "lack of quality" in music is to blame for all of this? Even if music is great, the majority of people who are into it won't buy it. Why? They can get it for free and they don't feel any sort of "bond" with the artist. I'd like to see a study conducted that shows the kinds (not just age--personality, income, etc.) of people still sticking it out and paying for the music.
