Tigercity - Tigercity
|Tigercity - Tigercity|
Record Label - Forge Records
Release Date - February 14th, 2006
Tigercity is an indie quartet hailing from Brooklyn, New York who have received rave reviews from numerous publications including Rolling Stone, USA Today, and the influential music-for-robots.com. They also recently sold out the Mercury Lounge three times in a row.
How Is It?
Tigercity did not end up in numerous popular publications by accident, their self-titled EP is a collection of slick, indie rock jams that are equally influenced by electronica and disco, adding a breath of originality into a genre that is otherwise growing increasingly stale. Tigercity kicks off with the insanely catchy “Time Card”, layering aggressive post-punk riffs over danceable electronic beats and immediately grabbing the listener’s attention for what will be an exhilarating listening experience. “Landline To Germany” relies heavily on the band’s electronic tendencies, yet the chorus is a smooth, fluid blend of electronics and funk-influenced melodies that sound like they belong in the ‘70’s rather than 2006. Tigercity is a streamlined album that shows very little flaws and is an essential record for those looking for new songs to add to their dance party playlist. The band has enough songs to record a full-length that is sure to turn heads, so I recommend you pick up the band’s debut EP so you can say you knew them when.
Tigercity has been compared to: Roxy Music, Talking Heads, Prince, and The Police
