While myspace is still in its death throes (IMO), it seems like it's still one of the few places to easily track song streams. SoundCloud is very good but doesn't have the market share yet, for example.

I'm intrigued to see how much basis the Next Big Sound-tracked sources (basically everything else) factors in over time. Could be a really good way to keep an eye on up-and-coming bands out of this scene. Or it could just fill up with crap bands on majors that haven't sold anything but get a lot of plays on myspace/facebook comments.

This is cool, it's going to be full of "flash in the pan" music (like how most pop music is now) but I think as this system of uncharted tracking develops it will really change how popular music is ranked. This is gonna' be the hottest of what's hot.

I've used Next Big Sound to aggregate bands I'm looking to work with over the past year or so, and it comes in handy. At the very least, this is another source to use.

Take a look at the myspace music charts lately? Most of the artists on there are terrible. I imagine their stats probably figure in most prominently since it comes across as a thinly-veiled partnership between them and Billboard.
