Farewell Continental – EP #2
Record Label: Paper+Plastick Records
Release Date: December 15, 2010
Can Paper+Plastick Records do any wrong? Apparently not, as Farewell Continental provides yet another quality – yet at times absolutely hilarious – offering from the label. Ask yourself: Do you enjoy Harrison Ford film characters? Or the idea of Justin Pierre’s vocals as Richard Kimble mixed with a female partner, Allie Fox? If so, then Farewell Continental are the band for you.
The opening “The Great Decay” is downright hilarious as Fox sings “I just wanna fuck the world” with Kimble’s amusing response “so fuck the world / fuck them all away.” The track is simply hilarious, yet it sounds serious and serves to be a real track, indeed. Kimble takes the lead on “Son Of A Bitch/Son Of A Whore,” a raw cut reminiscing Motion City Soundtrack’s signature sound with a twist provided by Fox’s amusing entrances. “Camera Ready Kids” slows down EP #2 with the best vocal performance by Fox and Kimble, accompanied by Rick Deckard’s backing guitar work and Jack Ryan’s drumming.
Ms. Fox takes the lead on “Total Devastation,” adding a nice touch to the track, while “Western Boys & Girls” exemplifies the resonating guitar work of Kimble and Deckard, another amusing pop number from Farewell Continental. Lastly, the final “Our House” is a stripped down cut that builds into the laughable singing of “our house is a very very very fine house.” The closer ends the EP on a soft yet comical note, basically a summary of what Farewell Continental are.
As low-profile as possible, Farewell Continental are not here to be serious, but rather to simply have fun. This EP is a fun ride of comic wit and stellar vocal performances, as expected, so just sit back and take the record for what it is meant to be: fun.
Son of a Bitch/Son of a Whore is my favorite song off this. But aside from that song's chorus, I didn't really find anything on the album to be comical at all like you did.
