I think that what they did was fairly disgusting. Basically, they shut down the sites - created their own site (through acquiring a popular brand, MXTabs) - and are now allowing only their site to do what the other sites did so that they can make the money and nobody else can. This greed is understandable but they are completely manipulating the thousands of people who will support the site without knowing that its new owner is the same person who shut it down.

Plus, they are going to be making thousands of dollars for user-generated content that was already previously available because of their shady practices. They are going to have a limited database while we wait for every publisher to sign on, if all of them even do.

I'm so glad Ultimate-Guitar is based in Russia.... say what you want about tabs, but I wouldn't be a guitarist today if I didn't learn from tabs. I'm betting many of the young scene musicians today, too, are in the same boat (which is obvious, in a bad way, in many cases, heh).

i switched to Ultimate-Guitar about a week before mxtabs went down, so it wasnt a heartbreaker.

I used to use MXtabs all the time when I first got my bass, so it's cool to have them back.
