Look at the RIYL for Pull Strings. If a band sounds like Lifetime or Such Gold, they aren't going to sound like The Swellers. Stop getting my hopes up AP.

You're saying that a band can't be influenced by bands that don't sound alike. I agree that The Swellers and Such Gold don't sound the same, though. I'm in Pull Strings and I can say that we take equal influence from both bands.

But isn't the point of a RIYL to say what band you sound like, not what bands influence you in equal parts?

I feel as if some of our parts sound more like a Swellers-esque punk and others sound like a Lifetime-esque melodic hardcore. But this is a silly conversation, it's all pop-punk in the long run.

I hate to chime in since my band was mentioned, but from the musician side of things RIYL's are the hardest things to come up with and are usually only partially accurate. Truth In Transit's probably aren't all that accurate, but they are the most common comparisons that we hear from people. If we just listed our influences it probably wouldn't be an accurate list of comparisons.
