You need both unless one can absolutely stand alone because it is just that good, which is rare.

for me, the music strikes me first. but once i pay attention to the lyrics, and if they turn out amazing, i like the band so much more.
if the music is catchy but has no meaning, it's shit to me.

i don't think i can sing any of my favorite songs all the way through, but i can hum/play every riff, melody, etc. in all of them. a good majority of my favorite bands are instrumental, and i feel that words sometimes take away from what i want to get out of alot of songs.

every instumental band?

i like the lyrics more just becuase they can get me through shit. like the song american love by haste the day that got me through a break up. there are many songs that have taught me many things through the lyrics.

i'm more on great lyrics and music that fits the mood the lyrics set
i don't care if the music is highly advanced, it just has to be fitting

girls like lyrics
boys like music

musicians like both :)

I think of it in terms of like a movie. The dialogue can be great, but the music bring it together.
