No surprises (for me at least), the new album is really really good, & very much in line with recent works Keep It Simple & Magic Time. Any Van fans will adore this.

I heard the lyrics are pretty terrible so I'm a bit weary. I don't think I've listened to a Van album past the late 80s

How did I miss that thread? I'm about to dig it up.

Mate... it's Van Morrison... what part of that rumour makes any sense whatsoever haha. Like his last couple albums, it's a lot more relaxed than his earlier material, & you can tell he's making music for him, because it's inside him, it's essentially all he knows & he obviously constantly has songs rolling around in his head. But it's by no means terrible.

If you haven't listened to any since the 80's, maybe start with Hymns to the Silence, that's one hell of an album from the 90's, & then go to Magic Time from the 2000's, then just fill in the gaps.

I will openly go on record saying Van has one of the strongest bodies of work of all time.

I know I know I know I just don't want to be disappointed by a Van album and I'm about 20/20 so far

Fall is usually Moondance and Astral Weeks for me
Spring is always Astral Weeks
Winter... iunno. Astral Weeks obviously but Tupelo Honey and Veedon Fleece have been getting a lot of plays out of me recently. Saint Dominics Preview as well

Basically if you don't have any of these get them and listen to them in this order:
Astral Weeks
Moondance
Veedon Fleece
Tupelo Honey
His Band and the Street Choir
Saint Dominic's Preview
No Guru, No Method, No Teacher

Veedon Fleece is usually the one I listen to the most in winter. Just something about the darkness of it. Most of his catalog beyond that has always had a very distinct autumn or spring feel to me. Though I will say that Common One is a really underrated record with a similar exploratory, ambitious nature. If you like Fleece and/or Astral Weeks, definitely give that one a shot.

Common One is great, Beautiful Visions follows a similar "feel" if you're a fan of that style of Van. The past few weeks, before I got Van's new album, I was listening a lot of The Healing Game & as usual, Hymns to the Silence, the latter often takes me on one incredible emotional journey. One of my favourites from that album, "Take Me Back"

So today I listened to It's Too Late to Stop Now for the first time for some reason and it's as great as I'd expect

Also found out that fan has a decently attractive daughter who also sings
