it really does. it's kind of shocking that a mass murder would be overshadowed by a drug addict who, quite frankly, killed herself. i mean, i'm certainly not trying to demean her life in anyway, but how can norway's 9/11 not be a constant focus for everyone right now? reminds me of the casey anothony trial. all those people so far up her ass when hundreds of thousands of other cases are unsolved/continue to happen. clearly the media has their priorities in order.
Both are important stories and the minimization of either is irresponsible. There are times and places to discuss both matters. There isn't a comparison, they're two independent stories with different circumstances. Amy, was a pop culture figurehead with a widely publicized substance abuse problem--and as everyone predicted she died from it. Her story, one that shouldn't be glossed over or minimized is that addiction is a problem that no amount of money or help can fight if the person is truly stuck in their ways. She was surrounded by enablers and the dialogue that will come from that needs to be reserved for E! or other shows that don't deal with world news. The worst dialogue will come Dr. Drew.
The Norway tragedy was a massacre, an act of domestic terrorism, Norway's Oklahoma City Bombing x100 and the coverage that comes from that has its place just as Amy's does. It's not only breaking news but it's world news that sadly I don't see American agencies picking up on because our culture doesn't really care about other parts of the world as long as it doesn't impede our way of life. Our pop culture has reached a point where it is priority and not past time and the result of that will be near invisibility of the Norway tragedy unless it comes on a cable news network where it'll mostly be talked about at night.
Anyway, both stories are important. American News has to stick to what gets views because a large portion of Americans only care about what happens on home soil. and celebrity. If your television provider hasn't provided you with a world news channel the internet has real time updates from various reputable news organizations.
