The thing with this kind of stuff is that it's always going to be pure speculation. I never heard anything about Schenn and Phaneuf not getting along before the trade, and I'd like to think I pay pretty close attention.

Unless of course, it only happened during the last month or so of this past season, in which case I missed it because that shit was depressing and I stopped watching.


Sorry to say it, but I'd completely agree with JP's assessment of Schenn. I'm not sure if I buy the argument that he would be a top 4 guy if he had spent his first year or two in the AHL, but the fact is, he's always going to have one very pronounced weakness: foot speed. He's a slow guy and that gets exploited a lot. That combined with the fact that he really struggled with turning the puck over and positioning last year makes him kind of a nightmare to have on your team right now, even in limited minutes. His corsi numbers last year were god awful. Definitely near the bottom for NHL defensemen, though I don't remember exactly where. I really did not expect him to get traded.

Google the story about phaneuf and schenn. Burke does a good job of silencing the media when it comes to certain things.

the best part about the staal trade are the rumors circling due to the resulting freed up cap space. I've heard stuff as extreme as Suter and Parise being signed by Shero.
