11:55 AM on 10/04/11 | It's like one 50 minute generic pop song.
But seriously, I gave it a fair chance and I'm kinda disappointed. Maybe it will grow on me.

12:03 PM on 10/04/11 | Wake up, you're faking... I personally think it is even better than ALIR. I know nobody will agree with me. I think lyrically it is on par but the musicianship on this album sets the bar for this band. I loved ALIR and liked ABH somewhat but to me this album takes the cake. I will just accept the fact nobody will agree but imo
Mayday Parade>A Lesson In Romantics>Anywhere But Here
Been into the band for a few years and ALIR has always been a classic to me. Always will I just think as a whole this is their best effort as far as self improvement and each member's performance. |
See, i think that ALIR had MUCH better lyrics than anything else Mayday has written. As far as musicianship, i think it's about on par with their self titled which is what makes this album MUCH better than ABH in my opinion.

I don't think lyrics are that different. I will admit ALIR had some very memorable lyrics but this album seems like they put a lot into it. Though if I put ALIR next to this album they seem to play their instruments better than before. It could just me but the drums and guitar just seem to at their best.
But I will concede that ALIR had better lyrics even if this album I feel has almost as good lyrics. The musicianship just seems like such a step up from anything they have done. I bit part of that is the band itself getting better and they worked with Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount again. Those guys have golden touches to a lot of albums.

12:21 PM on 10/04/11 | I feel about the same way as most posters in here. I think it's really good so far, but the lyrics aren't as good as ALIR and even though it's nice their other guitarist/bassist (can't recall who it is at the moment) is singing as well, the dual vocals aren't quite as dynamic as ALIR. But the music's really great. Musically it may be better than ALIR, honestly. I can't help but think the same album with Lancaster would've been better than ALIR.
But to be positive, it is infinitely better than Anywhere But Here. That album was unlistenable for me past the first 10 minutes or so.

12:31 PM on 10/04/11 | I really like it. The album is definitely not as catchy nor does it have as good lyrics as ALIR, but I'm a big fan of the instrumentation. I didn't like this album nearly as immediately as ALIR, but I think it'll grow. I doubt it'll end up liking it better than it, but it's very different than it.
I wish it was as dynamic as ALIR, or has a song with a killer hook but the 2nd half is definitely better than the first (barring Oh Well). I'm glad they decided to focus their music outside catchiness, but that was their mantra that even ABH had. As far as I can tell, that's really the only thing the album is missing (unless you count Jason, but even if he was still in the band, I don't think they'd ever top ALIR).

12:34 PM on 10/04/11 | Hate to be that guy, but they spelt "heroes" wrong in the titled of the second track. |
Wikipedia and the thread from months back has it as "No Heroes Allowed", unless dictionary.com has something seriously wrong, it should be right.

I think "Call Me Hopeless, Not Romantic" has one of their best hooks. Just a solid, catchy pop-rock song.

12:37 PM on 10/04/11 | Die young and save yourself After ABH I lost some hope in the band but they definitely redeemed themselves with this album. It's nothing spectacular but it's a solid album and progression since the last one

12:46 PM on 10/04/11 | I'm really surprised with this album so far. I would probably place it evenly with ALIR only behind Tales Told By Dead Friends.

The other vocalist is Jake, and he plays drums, just fyi.

01:11 PM on 10/04/11 | I don't know how anyone could say this is as good as A Lesson in Romantics. ALIR is one of the only pop/rock records i can listen to all the way through and not have to skip a single track. |
I feel the same with this album. Give it time. I'm not saying it is better than ALIR. The dual vocals are back and the intensity is there. Which song on ALIR is better than Oh Well, Oh Well? That song has everything.
