Who produced this one? Pete Rock? Either way, he has a right to sue. If you use samples there is some commom sense involved - especially if it's one of the biggest hip-hop releases of the year. Wouldn't be surprised if there are other cases brought against the album.

Publicity it is. I thought copyright on songs was 50 years but I believe it may be different if said artist is still alive also. Who knows. He's making headlines though....

Looks like he needs some source of income. If that weren't the case, then I'd be honored to have such amazing people sample my music.

I can't imagine the guys producing an album for Jay Z and Kanye to make a legal mistake. This guy is gonna get owned.

Because he wants what rightfully should be his? You'd be pissed too if you wrote a song, someone stole a piece of it, and then was making tons of money with it and you don't get anything...

The article says the song was supposed to be on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy as a bonus track, but they didn't have legal permission to use the samples.

In 1992, Johnson found out that his song "Different Strokes" had been sampled by number of rappers including Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Kool G Rap, Hammer, and the Geto Boys. Stimulated by this fact, he decided to make a comeback in the music industry.[1] In 1994, he released the album Back in the Game on Delmark Records. The album featured the Hi rhythm section and his youngest daughter Syleena Johnson.


The dude retired and then because people were sampling his shit he decides to make a come back. If anything he owes the artists that are introducing his music to a new generation of fans some gratitude. If it wasn't for the "thieves" he would still be running a fast food joint.
