Anybody heard of this guy? He's only gotten into like one of the debates so far but he's pretty interesting. Comes across like a more reasonable version of Ron Paul - general libertarian who wants to legalize pot, balance the budget, and reduce our foreign policy and military, but he doesn't spout off weird stuff about the Federal Reserve and he actually has experience as a state governor whose governing style was practical enough and popular enough to get him re-elected in a fairly Democrat state (New Mexico).

Also he has climbed Mount Everest with a broken leg.

GQ did a big piece on him called "Is This The Sanest Man Running For President?"

Some more info and links.

I like what I've read/seen of him so far, but that's admittedly not much.

Is legalizing pot his top thing, or just your favorite?

I think it's a top "general libertarian" thing. But from what I understand Ron Paul is more of a principled guy along the lines of "legalize pot because it's a matter or RIGHTS and FREEDOM" and Gary Johnson is more of a practical guy along the lines of "hey look at how much money we're wasting on prisons and law enforcement and how many families we're ruining and how many crime organizations we're enabling, etc".

My favorite is that he has climbed four of the world's seven summits.

I think he's the "most reasonable" candidate from what I know, but I haven't committed to voting for any of them yet.

What exactly does reducing our foreign policy entitle to? Is it reducing our involvement in foreign conflicts or is it isolating ourselves from the rest of the world?

I'm going to read up on this guy. A "more reasonable Ron Paul" sounds like someone I could support.

On Sunday's Meet the Press, he said there'd be no inflation under his Presidency because he would reform the Federal Reserve. I laughed my ass off.

To be fair, he's also vocal about going to a true gold standard, which, without a federal reserve or fractional reserve banking, would stop virtually all inflation.

Do you find inflation to be a positive benefit?

That's usually what I look for in a President. Somebody who has climbed any of the only seven mountains in the world.

Inflation is beneficial to those in debt, and most Americans are in debt these days. Also, there are plenty of causes of inflation besides the printing of money.
