The problem, and you hinted at it, is that Young Statues sounds like everything else. Sure, it's decent, but when you really get down to the details, it's an average, perhaps slightly above-average, record. There is nothing on this debut that leads me to believe that Young Statues will be anything special.

Is that a bad thing? Not necessarily. Not everyone is going to be genre defining or genre busting. Alas, we have heard DCFC knockoff's before. Young Statues sounds like any combination of Dawes, Into It. Over It., and The Morning Benders...but YS fails to be superior to any of those groups mentioned. All that being said, "Meet Me At The Hudson" is a damn good track.

I absolutely love this album.

It hasn't left my car stereo.

Yeah, besides the fact that we both used annoyingly broad introductions, I would argue that my sentence is at least slightly more colorful and I know I've never seen whatever review Sean wrote that that quote came from.
