|Hint: Have a band you'd like to see interviewed? Tell us.|
|The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:|
1. How did you get your band name?
Pierre: The name Modern Ghost comes from a graphic novel I've been working on for a couple of years now. In a nutshell, it's the story of a college drop-out who develops the ability to control his out-of-body experiences. Through those nightly escapades he realizes that mankind is fundamentally evil, and most if not all the major violent crimes happen when people are sleeping. At that precise moment he decides to step up to the plate, becomes Modern Ghost, and saves the world...kind of.
2. How did this band get started?
Pierre: The band started in 2008. Basically, I had been playing for other people my whole life and finally realized I could do things a lot better on my own. I picked up a guitar, taught myself how to sing, and asked my best friend Graham if he would be interested in taking over the world with me. Here we are today, three years later.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
Pierre: I wouldn't say we're influenced by certain bands specifically. I mean, we listen to all kinds of music and sort of create our own blend of rock with all those sounds that we listen to. This being said, a lot of people have described our sound as being the direct result of 30 seconds to Mars, Deftones, and the Goo Goo Dolls having sex. In other words, we write and sing about love, yet have this big, gigantic sound.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
Pierre: I think opening for U2 would be an ideal situation for us. Our sound, though completely different from U2's, attracts people from all walks of life. Playing in front of hundreds of thousands of people every night would definitely allow us to reach out to a very large audience.
5. Best food to eat on tour?
Pierre: Protein. We put whey in everything. We'd probably snort it if it wasn't so dirty.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
Pierre: Because they'd be missing out on the best kept secret if they didn't.
7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
Pierre: Sydney Crosby. He's Canadian, he's smart, he's talented, and he's captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
Pierre: My best friend Graham for sticking by my side through the whole journey.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
Pierre: I wish it wasn't so money-oriented. Labels aren't interested in developing a band anymore. They want a concrete product they can sell right away. I'm not gonna lie, it really bums me out. I understand that they have families to feed, but so do we. This system doesn't give a chance to bands like ours. It seems that unless your shit goes viral on Facebook or YouTube, you're never going to get a record deal. It's sad.
10. Memorable tour experience?
Pierre: Playing the Mercury Lounge in New York City. I still can't believe it, actually.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
Pierre: Everything. This website has the power to make or break a band.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
Pierre: "Without You." It's such a beautiful song. It has a more down-tempo feel to it, yet hits just as hard as our faster material.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
Pierre: Atlantic City. It has everything a boy could ever need; the ocean, the beach, a sick boardwalk, and an insanely grimy ghetto. Beautiful, beautiful place.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
Pierre: Aqua. They were the first band I really listened to. As a matter of fact, I still listen to them on a daily basis. They wrote some of the best dance songs of the last two decades.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
Pierre: That's a good question. Super powers are a little fake. I would much rather have a lot of money and design my own stuff like Batman.
16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
Pierre: As crazy as this sounds, we actually do nothing before a show. We just hang out as we normally would until it's time to hit the stage and destroy people. Then we get off stage and continue our normal conversations, haha.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
Pierre: I'm French, and Graham is the best drummer in the world.
18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
Pierre: Our band would definitely do well on the radio. I know that they don't put as much effort into promoting guitar-driven rock bands anymore, but music is a cycle. Stadium rock will most definitely come back in style, and once it does we'll be standing on top of the food chain.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Pierre: We play a lot of video games. We're all big fans of GoldenEye on N64. This is all we did during the making of our first record, Yours, Completely. Between every take we'd crack open a bottle of Dr Pepper and rock the crap out of that game.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have
Pierre: Graham is kind of a mastermind. He knows a lot about EVERYTHING. He can fix your car in twenty minutes and teach you random stuff about sound waves and stuff like that. Very, very smart guy. I, on the other hand, can't do much. Meh.
