MTV's 2007 Video Music Awards

Posted by: Jason Tate (08/06/07)
This year, MTV is changing things up for the 2007 Video Music Awards. Starting with location, MTV is going to be in control of the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, broadcasting live September 9, 2007. The main awards show will be broadcast from the Pearl in the new amphitheater inside the hotel. However, the hotel's suites have also been made available, and will provide bands an opportunity to hold an intimate show to about 100 fans and friends during the awards show. Also new to the 2007 show will be its broadcast. Being shortened to two hours from the usual three, MTV is looking to keep the VMAs action packed and get rid of any down time. In addition to this, the show seen live will not be repeated in its original form. Rather, every time the VMAs are repeated, they will be remixed. This will be done by taking the most popular performances and segments (as decided by the fans on mtv.com) and showing those with the repeats. Performances will also be focusing on new and different aspects. Artists are being encouraged to collaborate more, and present their music in new ways, to keep everything about this year's VMA's fresh. Finally, to kick of the VMA season, this Tuesday, August 7 Kanye West, along with others, will perform and present the VMA nominations live on TRL.

sounds smart. Awards shows need a good kick in the pants.

Meh... I can't judge until I see the actual show and performers, but the annual event has been stale for several years now.

I think it's a great idea that they're shortening it. Long-winded awards shows should be done away with.

those sound like really cool ideas. it was kind of ridiculous how outdated mtv had become, it sounds like they're finally changing things around to keep up. i wonder if it'll ever go back to the pop culture fixture it was in the 80s/early 90s.

It's hard to be a pop culture fixture when you broadcast reality shows all day. They should have much more music, without making viewers subscribe to specialty channels.

MTV needs this. they should also cancel all programming and play music again instead of feeding everyone the garbage they constantly put out.
