What do you find to be essential plugins for your DAW?

I'm constantly using Guitar Rig 5 and EzDrummer. What do you recommend, from amp sims to soft synths to pretty much anything useful!

Amplitube, Reaktor 5.

I like Amplitube more than Guitar Rig, but that may just be my preference. I have the free versions from both of their sites.

I would get Superior drummer over EzDrummer but over that I would get slate trigger and just program drums with that. Correct me if I'm wrong but you can't use your own samples in superior or ezdrummer?

Also I've found it's easier to get way better tones with a 57 and a nice amp rather than any simulation software. I do realize that my way isn't always feasible and found that Amplitube is a great resource, definitely get a nice DI box to run through your interface if you're going to do that unless your interface has high impedance inputs for guitars/bass.

I run a studio and all I can say is seriously dont use amp sims... reamp if you need to and combining triggered snare and kick samples with the original recorded drums is fine but it stops there as far as software instruments etc. Nothing sounds like a good band in a good room. Get some nice mics and preamps and one good hardware compressor and be done with it.

I highly recommend everything by soundtoys. they can really help you fill out the sound, and the decapitator distortion module rules.

For me, amplitube 3 is the best amp simulator out there. Especially with all these custom shop models they've been releasing. The orange and ampeg models KILL. Between that and Superior Drummer, those are the two software's i use the most.

Plugin wise? The CLA compressors are a go to, as well as the lexicon reverbs.

Totally agree. Decapitator is awesome, as is EchoBoy and Crystalizer. (Hell, they're all pretty awesome)

Learn how to use compression and EQ properly, treat your room, buy good mics and record good drummers on good kits, and good guitarists through good amps, and start recording music. I get great drum sounds using decent conversion, mediocre preamps, and decent mics, just by focusing on tuning mic placement, and most importantly PLAYING. Sound replacement and quantization are ruining music, if you can't do it live, don't record it.
