Well third base has always been an issue. As for centerfield I can see them signing cole and pence and putting pence in CF. As for catcher how far along is Valle?
I mean we could help the revenue stream of this team wins it again. They do have to pick though and it would suck seeing cole on another team. Should've saved money on a closer and never signed Howard to that deal. |
The revenue stream isn't going to go away if they don't win the WS but still put up 90 wins and playoff appearances. I know the fairweather fan girls at the ball park stumbling around drunk off their asses are annoying as fuck, but the Phillies are a party scene now and those people will keep filling the seats as long as the Phillies are willing games, no WS title needed (at least not in the immediate future)
Cole+Pence and no Victorino would probably leave them with 35-40ish million to the tax in 2013 to address CF, C, and 3rd. You could sign 3 decent guys with that kind of money, or a great guy and 2 mediocre at best guys, etc. It would of course be a huge huge plus if Mayberry and/or Brown can step up by then, allowing them to sign one of Pence or Vic and then just concentrate on 3B or C.
If Chooch can still hit at least .240ish though I'm sure they'd prob just bring him back for 2 years on the cheap, to continue handling the rotation. Lets be honest, they're not going to go out and spend a ton on C regardless of how much money they're willing to go over the luxury tax. They want guys that can handle the rotation and not be a black hole in the 8 spot, that's pretty much it.
