I graduated this year and was just getting into all these different bands and have realized in hindsight what a great year 2004 was. Some other definite notables were Straylight Run, the Killers, the Honorary Title, and the White Stripes.
When I went to Circuit City in Altoona PA to buy Mmhmm, I was so full of excitement, and then that album went and blew me away even more than I could have hoped.
And then, that summer, a friend I worked with at McDonald's gave me a copy of this album called "Where You Want To Be." My life was changed. Now I'm a slave to music.
Edit: Ocean Avenue came out in 2003, but I didn't have it till 04. These three albums literally changed my life and got me immersed in the scene.
Also, Lost Prophets put out an awesome album. I used it to get pumped up before soccer games in high school.

Forgot about Hot Fuss! Great debut. Was pretty much the soundtrack to my studies from then until I finished.
blink-182 - s/t, far and away... came out in 03, I know...
I think during that time I was mostly exploring classic rock and guitar metal or hip-hop in that time and missed out on a lot of good music Every album I keep thinking of as being significant for me came out in 05 or 06

Oh man Futures by Jimmy Eat World is amazing. That album defined a whole relationship I had with my only serious High School relationship. I would say that is easily in my top five for that year.
TBS- WYWTB, Autopilot off, and Midtown would be on that list as well.
An amazing list, and I couldn't agree more with Jason's selections.
"Hold On" by Name Taken is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's pretty unreal how flawless and underrated that album is. I'd kill for it on vinyl.
