PUA (Pick Up Artists) seem to be getting more publicity as of lately, and I don't really understand why. They say they're just trying to help guys come out of their shells and be more open to girls and not be afraid of rejection, but I've mainly just seen them end up acting like douchebags. What they teach seems to be a breeding ground for douchebags to me.

douchebags they may be, but a lot of what they say can be very helpful to certain 'types' of guys. Unfortunately, they charge $$$ for stuff that, if we stopped, slowed down & used our common sense when around women, can be realized for fucking free.

Women communicate on a whole different level than men do. These PUA's teach you what women find attractive in men (no that doesn't mean being an asshole). I've learned a lot from reading that stuff cos it's plain phycology. It's really fun to read and tryout in the field cos no matter how you put it, it works... Flirting is something that can be taught, so why not put in some effort to get better in it? You'll become a more social person and meet more people, what's wrong with that?

The guy Mystery, as influential as he has been in publicising "Pick Up Artists", has soiled the image of them somewhat, mainly because he looks like a clown, and his history as a magician make the whole thing look a lot more airy fairy than it really is. But if you look past the douchey, just-trying-to-fuck-women stereotype that lots of people have as a knee jerk reaction, there is depth there than can actually help people.

Interacting with women can be confusing to a lot of guys. These guys have turned meeting and attracting women into something guys can understand, creating a codified system to follow. Lots of people scoff at this part, because they think attraction is a lot more fluid and organic - they say it can't be turned into a science. But if you spend a little time with evolutionary biology and social psychology, like some PUAs have, you'll find that it actually is science. It is a skill, and any skill can be practiced, learned and mastered.
