Mulholland Dr. (took me two watches and some extracurricular reading for it to click) and The Elephant Man which is outright incredible. I like Blue Velvet a lot, too, but I had the benefit of viewing it with a little context about Lynch's style and thematic concerns, which it's a pretty great example of.

I fucking loathe Eraserhead though.

Why am I not shocked that you hate Eraserhead?

Mulholland Drive is fantastic though. How great is the last hour or so? I need to watch The Elephant Man. I swear, I'm still loathing myself that my first introduction to Lynch was fucking Dune and not that.

Lastly, have you seen Inland Empire? I'm watching it today.

Yeah. You had some really interesting things to say once you elaborated on the film and I really do appreciate that and you also helped me see my own elitism and/or personal bias for what it was. You're alright, kid.

You really do need to see Elephant Man. Proof that Lynch could tell a relatively straight-forward story when he wanted without sacrificing artistic quality or the themes he was concerned with his whole career.

I haven't seen Inland yet, no. Eventually.

He's definitely a prominent example of a director that would allow exhibitions of his own personality to consume any actual story. The contradiction can definitely produce fantastic results, though.

This is actually our first conversation in the past two weeks. Huh. Guess I wasn't on ignore.

I agree. You should check out The Elephant Man. It's a really straight forward narrative but a very affecting one as well.

I know, I know. You've just seemed more stern lately.

I'll definitely get around to that once I get Inland Empire out of the way. It'll be interesting to jump from one extreme to the other.

I like Inland Empire a lot but I don't have the same affinity for it as I do with Eraserhead, Mulholland Dr., or Blue Velvet. A lot of people do, though.

I haven't found any of the posting in the chat thread interesting enough to comment on or respond to lately.

I've heard many people in here and critics I keep up with saying it's his best work so I'll have to see.

Me neither, which is why I'm reverting back to nonsense. Life is hard. I'll bump your thread soon enough.

That argument could definitely be made. I think it also resonates with people more the more that they watch it.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I was going to. Some of it was pretty incredible.
