Ah it comes to the IFC center here around the same time I think. Decisions, decisions.

Glissements progressifs du plaisir - Robbe-Grillet is one of my favorite directors, and it's a shame he's often pigeonholed as a purveyor of erotica and nothing more. So much to appreciate here, especially compositionally, though it may be the deadpan, insouciant wit I relish most of all.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION ALERT: Gangster Squad wasn't that bad, and I preferred it to Lawless, although I'm sure much of that is due to expectation.

I thought Lawless was just okay. Didn't really hear anything good about Gangster Squad, but still want to see it.

Mikey and Nicky - I probably would assume Cassavetes directed this if I didn't know otherwise, although upon closer inspection Elaine May's film is not on the same level artistically. Falk and Cassavetes are great, though the misogyny gets pretty ugly. It's difficult to know how much of that is related to the time period, the character type, or perhaps a reflection of May's attitude toward men.

I have had very little inspiration to write. I have been watching a lot of classics and those are less fun to write about.

The Portland International Film Fest is about to start here, so that's pretty cool. Will finally get to see Leviathan.

besides Laurence Anyways*!*!*!**!*!*!*!*!!* what are you most looking forward to?

I've narrowed it down to this:

Beyond The Hills
A Hijacking
The Hunt
In The Fog
Leviathan
Memories Look At Me
Neighboring Sounds
Post Tenebras Lux
Sightseers
Something In The Air
Tabu
Two Years At Sea
You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet

I can't afford to see much (movies are $10 each, I think), so I'll be prioritizing stuff that hasn't leaked and/or ought to be seen on the big screen. So Leviathan, Tenebras, and maybe Tabu. I believe the Ben Rivers film is showing at YU for free/suggested donation.

Fair enough. I'll have to cut down my list to something more realistic like 4-5. I'm not sure where i'll go with it, but since a few of these get releases sooner than later I might cut those out. Ugh we'll see. thanks for the heads up on Two Years At Sea, btw.

I hit up three at Portland last year, all in the Art Museum by PSU. All three (Klown, Play and Snowtown) were great.
