These Ponder jokes are going to stop soon, right?
Haha I'm debating what to change my avatar to at the moment. I think we'll shelve them until relevant times during the season.

That's the sad truth, that NFC North division is stacked. Definitely going to make the playoff race interesting.

The NFC itself is stacked.

NFC East - 3 teams have a legit chance to win the division (and if RG3 plays well, Wash could be in the mix).
NFC North - 3 teams will battle for a division title and a wild card spot. Could have 3 teams get in this year.
NFC South - Once again, 3 teams will fight for the division title. And once again, could have 3 teams get in the playoffs.
NFC West - SF will be the overwhelming favorite, but don't sleep on Seattle. I think they will be a surprise team this year.

Meanwhile in the AFC, you don't see the same competition.

AFC East - Pats are huge favorites. No one has a clue what the other 3 will do.
AFC North - strong division, 3 teams fighting for top spot
AFC South - Texans followed by trash.
AFC West - Broncos and Chargers aren't bad but still not close to being SB contenders.

I don't think SF will be as good as they will be listed as, they still have a lot of questions on offense. All they really did is add like 30 running backs and a aging Randy Moss who isn't the most helpful receiver and Manningham who might be a little bit of a step up over Crabtree. Plus they still have Alex Smith throwing the ball who had a alright season last year but could barely close in the redzone.

Seattle still has a lot of questions on offense too which could keep them out of the top spot. If Matt Flynn/Russell Wilson can perform at QB, if Sidney Rice can stay healthy and if Lynch can perform the whole year then Seattle can be a solid team this year.

That's why I was so surprised that SF didn't go after Plax. It would have been a VAST improvement for their Red Zone game. I dunno, just seemed like that could be a good fit.

Obviously I'm a homer, but SF is bringing back all of their 2011 defensive starters, and added some depth at WR and RB. No, they probably won't be much better on offense, but there should be at least a little improvement. I don't see why one would see the Rams, Cardinals, or Seahawks as competition to the Niners in the division. It will probably take 10-11 wins to take the division. Even if the Niners take a step backward, they're still heavy favorites.

The NFL made some rule changes to the noise rules.

Quote:
"Stadiums will now be free to rile up crowds with video displays, and public-address announcers will no longer be restrained from inciting racket when the opposing offense faces a crucial third down." -- the Wall Street Journal

It's unclear how much louder CenturyLink Field can become, but a few well-timed highlights featuring knockout hits from Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor should help us find out.

Likewise, shots of Tony Romo's infamous botched hold against Seattle in the playoffs years ago should come in handy when Romo is breaking the huddle at CenturyLink for the Seahawks' home opener this year.

so while the opposing offense is trying to call plays or make adjustments at the line, the home team's PA announcer can yell and make all kinds of noise to distract them? or is that not allowed?
