I know there is probably a thread about this but I didn't know what to search.

Thrice is one of my favorite bands (shocking I know) but knowing that Dustin is a devout Christian, which I don't care about, it is entirely possible that he is against gay marriage. As open as I am to diverse points of view, I cannot help but feel that those against gay marriage are prejudiced in the way whites were/are against blacks. It is the reason I don't eat Chic-fil-e and shop at Target. Therefore, if it were to come out that Dustin fought against same sex unions, I would have a hard time reconciling my support for the band with my beliefs. Of course this is completely hypothetical, I don't know his stance on the issue.

Have you ever run into a situation where a band action or opinion would change your perceptions of them, or do you separate the music from the musicians?

I think the biggest crime of this thread is that you don't eat at Chik-fil-a

Chik-Fil-A owner bro doesn't like gays, loves chicken.

Me bro likes the gays, loves chicken.

Look at that common ground, we just found a way to bring us close through our differences with delicious chicken its so good.

And since when does Target hate gay people? That place is like a home to me with a ton of people in charge, not gonna stop going cause we don't see eye-to-eye on every issue.

Eh, Thrice is kind of overrated. Just find a better band to get all hard over.

If you can't get into a band because the lyrics promote things you're diametrically opposed to, that's reasonable enough. If you dislike a certain belief or worldview enough, listening to it constantly likely isn't your favorite past time.

There is no reason, though, to be completely repulsed by an artist's output simply because the artist has a belief or stance outside of his/her art that doesn't fit your worldview.

Art is art. The source doesn't matter unless you let it matter. It's up to you and how you choose to consume it. Enjoying the creative output of a musician who's religious, areligious, homophobic, vegan, racist, sexist, anarchist, socialist, libertarian, polygamist, thieving, molesting, murdering, or a WOW player doesn't spread that position unless the song you like is propaganda, and even then, if you're a reasonable adult, you can probably listen to it on your own without suddenly changing your stance to that one.

And, I didn't know Thrice was the cool AP.net band to hate on now. Guess it makes sense with their farewell tour and all. I kinda dislike the average Thrice fan I come across, too, but I'm also practically in love with Thrice/Dustin Kensrue myself. Different strokes for different folks, though, right?

People hate on Thrice? I thought this band was second only to Brand New in terms of everybody here loves them.

They might be first. I can't think of as many people discussing Thrice and saying, "I hated their last album."
