Hey, I don't know how many people there are from Wales on AP or how many Welsh speakers but I've recently started listening to Welsh language bands- anyone want to suggest some good ones or just talk about Welsh music?

I think the woman from Catatonia released an album in Welsh called Awyren = Aeroplane.

I don't speak that much Welsh and I don't like Cerys Matthews, so I haven't listened to it, but that was the first thing that came to my mind.

Also the band The Alarm used to release Welsh versions of their albums. Again, I haven't listened to any, but I know they exist.

Thanks, the reason I ask is my (Welsh medium) school has started a radio station, and no-one knows a thing about Welsh music. So I'm determined to actually make use of this as an opportunity to actually get people to widen their tastes. I already listen to some bands but I reckon it'd get boring listening to the same 10 bands.

This looks like a decent list of welsh language musicians. Like I said, I don't speak Welsh, but I think that's what all these artists are.

This wikipedia page will give you a few other bands as well.

Really hope this is a joke. English is only the de facto language primarily because the English that came to North America conquered and abolished all those who went against them.

Its quite sad that less than half the population dont speak Welsh and the kids in Welsh schools dont want to speak it but the ones who do are very proud
