Was the Gorge really that great of a venue that it would make or break the festival? I'm thinking about also going to the WA date, and was wondering why everyone was protesting this new venue. |
The gorge IS that great of a venue, I know 10 people not going this year because of the venue change. the reason they claimed to change venue was to make tickets cheaper, but the tickets are just as expensive. Also: Marymoor is just really crappy. I've been there plenty of times because I live 15 minutes from the new venue. It is mediocre, right next to the free way. It is a public park, with soccer tournaments, tennis courts, dog trails, etc, so odds are on a weekend it will be busy from the public. It is the same weekend as the main part of Seafair, meaning people from all over the Northwest, and US in general will be in town already making traffic worse, hotels filled, restaurants busy etc. There also is no camping here, or near by. A HUGE part of warped weekend around here was having the whole experience. The drive through empty fields into an area that is gorgeous. Camping out with strangers and friends and just rocking out to music all night the day before and after the festival. The venue size is terrible. it isn't very big compared to the gorge. The area is almost guaranteed to rain, last august in the area it was pouring rain all summer. I've been going to warped for 8 or so years now and every year the gorge has been 90+ degree weather. That is just how it is there, and of course this view seals the deal.
Basically:
Worse Venue
More Expensive
Crappy Traffic
No Camping
Bad Weather
