yes that's being judged. no one is limiting your rights in this scenario. meanwhile, my state is considering a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, and it is entirely propagated by religion/religious reasoning.

The people in office don't stand for everyone, I wouldn't be against the religion, just the people who misuse it. Gays are welcome to my church, the banning of gay-marriage could also include some political standings and not just religion, but that's just a guess. It's also just not the people who have faith in a book who are against same-sex marriage. I'm sure there are atheists as well that agree with banning same-sex marriage.

If I was born in an muslim area i'd probably be forced to be muslim. I was still able to choose what I wanted to believe in though.

Good to see you're a pile of shit, puts a smile on my face.

So, to ask why people insist on arguing about religion, you've started an argument about religion.

I assume a homophobic atheist exists somewhere.

But I'm a Christian that "doesn't give a shit what gays do" in the sense that they're human beings, just like me. I want them to be able to marry and have the same rights as a heterosexual couple. In 2012 I don't see a good reason why they're still discriminated against.

the people in office represent the majority, who so desperately want to limit my rights because their book says being gay is bad and gross.

I wish no one wanted to ban same sex marriage. Sadly it's not a perfect world. I just feel bad for the thousands of people who aren't able to legally marry in their states right now just because they're gay. I can't imagine how that feels.

I don't even think the Catholic catechism says people will go to hell for not being Christian. Though granted, it's been quite a while since I read it. People ought to read their own manuals.

I'm sure there's at least one homophobic atheist but I understand that Sean and Steph mean that the percentage of atheists being homophobes would be ridiculously lower than the percentage of Christians.

As for the last question I believe that people using religion in the wrong way as held people back, but whatever makes sense to you then believe that.

Who are you to say what is the right way to use religion? The concept of faith is a belief within you that you recognize can't be tangibly justified to someone else. If you could, it would cease being faith.

If you're willing to condone a belief in something you can't tangibly justify to the point that you allow it to govern your entire life, how can you separate that from the actions a person might take as a result of that belief? Why do you get to cherry pick the good actions you perceive derive from an unjustified religious belief from the bad actions that might derive from an unjustified religious belief?

Do you know what the catechism says on that? I'm now almost curious enough to go dig through my mom's bookshelf. 'Cause it'd be rather amusing/sad if the OP is confirming J.C. will go to hell when that's not even his religion's belief. Haha.

Yep I totally agree with that, sadly.

Isn't believing in Jesus a requirement to get into heaven (honest question)?

i'd argue a fraction of a percent, but i am just making that up on the spot based on everything i read on the interwebs.
