Do any other Gj fans (I use the term "fans" because I am neither a troller nor looking for input from trollers) feel like they have become more of a brand than a vehicle for music? I was looking through their merch page today for the first time in a while and it seems all of their time is being spent on making money on their name/image i.e.pumping out a million designs...

I have no issues with Beck focusing his energy into ventures such as MerchDirect/designs but on the other side of the coin, I feel they are doing in an almost exploitative way where they'd rather fans wear a t-shirt that says how great the band is rather than proving it with new music/touring.

I don't expect the band to put all their energy into the band because that is not where they are in their lives but I wish they'd spend whatever time they are going to devote to the band doing music-related things rather than money-making merch items.

coloring book had a physical release in the form of a CD on the tour they did during its release. our color green is probbbbbably never going to get a physical release since they did all those 7"s beforehand. probably wont see another physical release from this band until like.. eh.. 2017?

while i'd like to see more focus on releasing music than releasing merchandise for any band, it doesn't bother me too much because I want bands to function in any way that works best for them. if they can continue to make money from merch and that eventually gets them to make music, i can't really have an issue with it, as much as waiting for new music sucks. at least they don't disappoint when new music eventually does surface.
