Great review Tom, can definitely tell that it was a beast to write.
I think this is a fantastic album, just how everything completely fits into the concepts or fire and water, but how the lyrics and music can still be applied to life in general. I love how Dustin varies his tone and style of singing to fit the particular song, and how the lyrics and the production fit so well. Like in Backdraft, how the verse literally sounds like fire suffocating and waiting to be re-introduced to the oxygen of the chorus, or in Night Diving, how the in-and-out echo of the intro guitar sounds like the ebb of the tide and the sway of the waves.
My favorite track from each EP would have to be The Messenger and The Whaler, because IMO they both completely embody the style of their respective element and lyrics, and are both very pleasing listens. My least favorites are Burn the Fleet, because I would rather it be harder and less melody oriented (even though it was written that way and perfectly fits the subject matter of the song), and Lost Continent, because it just seems to drag with little variation.
Overall, I really enjoy and appreciate each EP as a separate work of art. Fire is louder and harder, with more lyrical description, and Water is smoother and haunting, with briefer yet more profound lyrical content.
Thanks bud! I'm glad you enjoyed the review! I agree on your favorite tracks. Those are great ones.
