I'm excited to hear what's different. As long as the music's good, I don't mind the change, especially with them. The only thing I sometimes don't like is how grating Baizley's voice can be.

Well I love his vocals but according to the reviews I've read (and interviews) he's apparently dialed back the screaming/shouting on this record and almost entirely does away with it in favor of just straight up singing.

decibel magazine had a really great cover story on baroness and the new album if you wanna check it out.

for people who've listened to it, just how different is it? the new songs I've heard have sounded more or less like the same old Baroness just a little mellower and less abrasive. some reviews I've read make it out like the new album's a total departure so I'm just curious as to just how big a departure it really is.

since like I said, the songs I've heard don't sound all that radically departed from the usual Baroness.

Departure is overdoing it. It's still got the riffs and fun little solos. It's just devoid of the deep vocals that drew me in. There is a lot of down time on it. It's a fun listen. I'd compare the sound to the difference between Leviathan and Crack The Skye but not as boring and shitty.

Haha well I like Crack the Skye quite a bit actually. But yeah I see what you're saying. I'm sure I'll end up loving it regardless.
