The Swellers Talk About Life After FBR

Posted by: Jason Tate (04/30/12)
The Swellers discuss leaving Fueled by Ramen and the motivations behind it.
From the InterviewDefinitely a few months ago. We all started talking about what was best for us in general. I think a big part of it too was that we kind of realized that they would understand because they have these bands that are doing so well. And then a band from a world like ours. A DIY and I guess punk band being bunched with those other bands doesn’t really make any sense for them because of the way they promote. They have a surefire way of doing promotion for those bands. But when you put a band like us in it, it doesn’t really work. So one thing led to another. The little things added up. Not saying that the label is doing poorly. You look at a band like fun. and they’re breaking world records right now for sales. We just wanted to do our own thing and we think we’ll be better off.

Good for them for taking the prerogative and good for FBR for not being assholes about the situation.

I think leaving FBR was a good call on their part. I'm really excited to see where this band goes next.

Very classy of both parties. Would like to see much more of this around the industry.

This is quite possibly the nicest a band has been to their major label after leaving it that I can remember

Well, Jono doesn't seem too worried about this. I definitely trust that they know what's best for their band!

I thought bands weren't "allowed" to quit.

The label let them go, as very clearly stated.
