But the "joke type" songs still sound good. The beauty of "Pretty Fly" is how its self depreciative. Stuff like "Hit That" still had a solid rock sound even if the lyrics are rather lowest common denominator. This song is just... bad. Its trying to be a traditional pop song without any of the 'this stuff kinda sucks' that Pretty Fly had.

I wouldn't say the song is *terrible*, which is to say, its better than Maroon 5's Payphone. But its still just all kinds of bad.

Correct. It was like a much-better written, non-specific goofy song like "Pretty Fly" without being too cornball. Just came out at the wrong time and never got a decent push.

Nail on the head. The only crowd that they could be going for with this is either little kids or soccer parents who would interpret this as "ironic." It sounds, reads and plays like it was made by a bunch of fourtysomethings that lost touch with culture in the 90s.

Coming from somebody who has loved this band since 1998 and has defended Splinter and Rise and Fall... what the bloody fuck is this? I would be ashamed. Still have hope that the new album will be decent, but this will not be making it past my itunes.

The rest of the album is going to be rather fast and punk.

Spare Me The Details is one of my favourites too.

Had a look over at The Offspring's Official Forums to see what they had to say about it and they seem to be hating it too and they are die hard fans.
