I never really gave The Shins a chance when I was younger. I bought Oh, Inverted World
when everyone was raving about it and only spun it a few times...wasn't really my cup of tea at the time. Didn't pay attention to them for a while until I heard that Broken Bells song "The High Road" (which is a JAM). Downloaded the leak of Port Of Morrow
a few months back because I was low on new stuff at the time and found it quite enjoyable. Downloaded this last night after a friend played me "So Says I" and...wow!
I just love how tight everything is. The songs click on all sonic levels for me, and there's a brashness that I haven't heard in a while (really reminds me of 2003 for some reason). I'm not really into the lyrics yet; I feel like they're not as important to the music...more like they're excuses for Mercer to do whatever the hell he wants vocally (and I'm totally down for that).
