1. How did you get your band name?
[TOM] It was me listening to a Warped Tour compilation years ago and there were two songs, one straight after each other. The first one was called "My Favourite Accident", by Motion City Soundtrack and the second was "Disregard The Runner Up" by Kicked in the Head. I thought they sounded cool when you merged them together, and that's that.
2. How did this band get started?
[TOM] This lineup was formed 6 years ago when we stole Andy from another local band, because our old guitarist wasn't the committed sort. [ANDY] All of us were in previous bands. Tom and Chris have been in bands together for over ten years and Lee was in some fucked up turkey killing infested shit band before joining MFRU. Haha.
3. What bands are you influenced by?
[CHRIS] As a band, we all like a lot of different music, I can listen to anything from Slipknot to Taylor Swift, but it's obvious from the sound of what we end up creating that we mainly draw our inspiration from bands like Lostprophets, Jimmy Eat World and New Found Glory, bands with good strong anthemic songs. [TOM] We're pretty much influenced by all the bands on the UK scene at the moment.
4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?
[LEE] Girls Aloud would be great to "hang out" with. [TOM] Sum 41 were great back in the day, but I think The Blackout would be really fun just to watch them live every night. [CHRIS] We met Sean Smith while they were on the Kerrang Tour and he was a bit of a character. I think he'd get on great with our turkey killing bassist.
5. Best food to eat on tour?
[ALL] Greggs! [CHRIS] We should be endorsed by them! Every stop on tour has to include a visit to those guys! I love the pasties.
6. Why should people listen to your band?
[TOM] We're a passionate, hard working, energetic band that write honest music that we really care about. [ANDY] If you like sweet melody then you should definitely check us out.
7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?
[ANDY] David Beckham, 'cause he's fit. [TOM] Lee's got the body of a wrestler. He'd have to swap with one of those guys. We'd call him The Lumberjack. [TOM] I'd like to swap with Wayne Rooney because he's a beast. [CHRIS] Yeh, then you'd be good looking, not. I'd like to be Roger Federer because I'd get paid loads to make groaning noises.
8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?
[LEE] God [ANDY] Satan. [CHRIS] I think we'd thank the usual people. Our parents helped us out sooo much at the start and our friends have been there all the way so we'd have to include them.
9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?
[TOM] I'd get rid of illegal downloading. Loads of bands break up because of money trouble and labels aren't safe. Just look at what's happened with Roadrunner UK. If you want a product, buy it. Support music and don't steal.
10. Memorable tour experience?
[TOM] Andy falling out of the van butt naked was a highlight for me. Then he got up and knocked our naked merch guy down a muddy bank into stingy nettles. [CHRIS] Just don't ask why they were naked.
11. What does AP.net mean to you?
[LEE] It's a great place to discover new bands and hear reviews before you buy music. I love it.
12. What is your favorite song to play?
[LEE] "Hold Me Down" because at shows, if anyone is going to know one of our songs, it's usually that one so it get's a great response.
13. What is your vacation spot of choice?
[TOM] We don't get vacations. We're in a band. [LEE] I hear Mount Doom in Mordor is quite warm at this time of year.
14. What music reminds you of your childhood?
[TOM] My dad always had James Brown and The Beach Boys in the car. They got my legs tappin'. [CHRIS] It's Beach Boys for me too. After "I Get Around" was featured in that film The Flight Of The Navigator, I was hooked. We all just starting singing it, Haha.
15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?
[ANDY] I'd have the super power that can absorb any super power. [TOM] That's not fair!! [ANDY] I win. [LEE] I'd have the power to strip people of super powers. [TOM] He could absorb your power though. [ANDY] Yeh, then I'd strip you of your power. [LEE] Dammit.
16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?
[TOM] Drink and a huddle. [CHRIS] Yeh, but we forget to huddle most times. [LEE] Drink and a cuddle.
17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?
[TOM] Chris appeared on the Antiques Roadshow this year discussing antique war medals.
18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?
[TOM] I think that radio is OK at the moment. It's always gonna be mainstream, but they do cater for unsigned upcoming acts as well, even if it is at 2 in the morning. It is what it is. [CHRIS] I think our songs would fit up there right now. That would be insane.
19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
[TOM] Football. Watch football, eat football, breathe football. [ANDY] What's football? I like the gym. [LEE] Practising the dark arts. [CHRIS] I record other bands' music.
20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
[TOM] Andy can juggle bowling balls. [ANDY] Lee can fart the alphabet [LEE] Chris can ....umm.....well...nothing really. [TOM] I love to dance. |
