Pretty much how I first read it. Trust me, it's worth it, once you get into it. The endnotes help make it awesome. It's not that hard to comprehend, though.

The whole speech, in the context of his suicide, kind of terrifies me. I get this image of him spending his entire life trying to think outside his default setting, miserably failing and dying...

Still a beautiful speech.

I first read it at a pretty vulnerable time and it was like a huge slap in the face. Now I read it whenever I'm feeling down. Really haven't been the same ever since this--and for that matter, Infinite Jest. DFW was brilliant.

i actually read that commencement speech a few weeks ago, its published in a little white book with like 7 words on each page.

"A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" is a perfect essay. I still can't get over it. I really need to get to "Consider the Lobster."

If you're looking to get into his work I highly recommending starting with his essays, then his short stories before you tackle something like Infinite Jest. A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again is one of the most hilarious things I've ever read.

Thanks for the advice. And I've actually watched around half of Brief Interviews With Hideous Men. Now that I think about it I have no idea why I haven't watched the rest.
