Alright, so after a little bit of a lull, and maybe not a completely fair poll outcome (deal with it), I've decided that the first (hopefully of more than one) installment of the AP Group Watch will be the first and only season of Terriers.

How It Works

It's simple. We're going to aim for watching two episodes of this program a weekend. It's only 13 episodes, not very daunting. The entire series is available for streaming on Netflix, but if you want to torrent it, or you own it digitally, stream it somewhere else, whatever makes you happy, go for it that way. Two episodes a weekend, watch them whenever Saturday or Sunday. Whalejaw and myself are going to come up with some bullet points for discussion for said episodes, and then post them in here. Hopefully this will get some discussion stirred up, because that's what the week is for. Watch the episodes over the weekend, discuss them during the week. I don't think it will be that tough, this is a pretty nuanced show, with a lot of character depth and plot subtleties.

Synopsis

Ex-cop and recovering alcoholic Hank Dolworth partners with his best friend, former criminal Britt Pollack in an unlicensed private investigation business. The series is set in Ocean Beach, San Diego, California, although it is portrayed as a distinct town, Dolworth having been a member of the fictional Ocean Beach Police Department. The series seamlessly blends elements of comedy, drama, and the good parts of a crime procedural. Although it was canceled after only one season/13 episodes, the show also does a great job of working in a quality seasonal arc in addition to its week by week cases. Terriers was created by Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Matchstick Men, The Shield) and its showrunner/EP was Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield, Chicago Code and the upcoming Last Resort).

So this should do a pretty good job of taking us all the way through the summer, leading me to believe we can probably handle four of these a year, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there. The point of this is for it to be fun, laidback, and stir up discussion about a fantastic short-lived show that deserves to be viewed by everyone. It really is one of the best single-season shows in TV history.

Very excited. I've heard so many great things but never bothered to check it out. I think this would be a really interesting thing to do with one or two season shows. Not so sure how well it would work with longer running shows. But with Firefly, Veronica Mars, Arrested Development, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Cupid, Sports Night, Party Down, Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks, etc., there's plenty in that category to choose from.
