10:02 PM on 06/27/12 | After "Boyfriend", "Payphone" is the most annoying song of 2012.

08:57 AM on 06/28/12 | Listening to it now. At first listen, not too impressed, but Ladykiller is pretty solid. Like Love Somebody too just for that synth part. Also like Sad, and Doin Dirt.
And what the fuck. Last track--Beautiful Goodbye might be my favorite from this album. Song is so chill and I love that guitar lick. Adams voice and acoustic guitar are like peanut butter and jelly. They belong together. Stop with trying to make dance songs and start making chill, feel-good pop songs with acoustic guitars.

Great username/avatar.
I wasn't going to give this a listen, but I'll give it a shot. I like hearing the whole album before a "huge" single gets released.

07:35 PM on 06/28/12 | I nearly cried during my first listen of this record. I assure you though, it was tears of sadness. You can say over and over again that artists mature, but where the hell is my "mature" version of Songs About Jane already?! This ain't it kids. Sure Adam's voice sounds great and "One More Night" is truly the closest I've felt they were to that funk sound that I craved from them, but this album just sounds like what happened when Cobra Starship decided to go the dance/club route. It's so damn depressing to see Maroon 5 go on like this.
Oh, anybody an old school Maroon 5 who has the original "Live Friday the 13th" track called "Wasted Years"? Did ya listen to the recorded version on this record? Please tell me you couldn't get through all the way because your ears were bleeding. Damn it man. I thought Linkin Park's album was supposed to suck this time around, turns out it's the exact opposite.

07:31 AM on 06/29/12 | There are definitely some good songs on here but it's overall an incredible disappointment and their first mediocre/poor album. These guys have put out some of the most consistently great pop music for a decade.
I feel like anyone in the band who isn't Adam Levine must have been very bored making this. From the club-esque beats in certain songs to the random "rapper before the finale chorus who drops an absolutely bland verse" guest spot, it sounds like what I would imagine an Adam Levine solo album to sound like. But as a Maroon 5 album, it feels disingenuous, especially considering they decided to work with outside writers. It's an obvious reaction to the success of "Moves Like Jagger".
Maybe I'm being too harsh. I would probably really enjoy it if it were, again, a Levine solo album. But when I listen to this and try to tell myself it's a band, something feels off. |
No you're not. This is a very, very accurate review of the record. Especially the 'reaction to success of Moves Like Jagger' line... this whole album just reeks of insincerity.

09:12 AM on 06/29/12 | Payphone is one of the worst fucking songs I've ever heard.
|
07:17 AM on 06/30/12 | Payphone's a fucking great song. Rest of the album isn't too bad either.

03:46 PM on 06/30/12 | this album is super loose butthole.
|
07:16 PM on 06/30/12 | yeah I don't think I'll like this. I'll stick to my Songs About Jane.

12:47 AM on 07/03/12 | It's cheesy. It's camp. It's over produced.
But, fuck, it's brilliant. When I drive to work on a rainy morning in the UK I don't want to listen to The Devil and God... or Eat, Sleep, Repeat. I love those records more than I'll ever love anything by Maroon 5, but it just makes me SMILE.

02:29 PM on 07/04/12 | I just listened to this, because I was very curious (and I've never listened to M5 before), and it's overproduced, extremely cheesy, but wow, it's brilliant. I'm a sucker for solid pop, and this does it for me. There are some great tracks on here, and some that aren't. But as a whole, this is a solid pop record, even if it seems rather insincere.

12:55 PM on 09/21/12 | Completely disagree. This was one of the most disappointing albums this year. This isn't Maroon 5.
