okay i need some confirmation.

My friend (a girl) just broke up with her bf of 4 years. Obviously during those 4 years we got to know the bf pretty well, and learned that he's pretty cool and is really competitive and likes sports, so we began to invite him to play sports with us. He also invited me to his family graduation party a few weeks ago, and i was told he considered me a good friend of his.

now since they broke up, my friend said that she'd feel uncomfortable if we called him while she was around, and we said fine. We respected the idea that since they broke up (she broke up with him), that she would feel emotionally unstable to be in the same place as him at present time.

BUT! she has also asked us to not see him at all, ever. Like, if she's not around, and he asks us to play soccer or something, we have to say no or just ignore him...or if we're looking for an extra guy to play with us, we can't call him. I think that that's mean spirited and irrational.

Nonetheless, this is irrational. You can't let one friend tell you who you can or can't be friends with. If she doesn't want to be around him then fine. You can respect that and if you are hanging out with her, then don't invite him... but if you choose to hang out with him on your own time when she's not around then so be it. If she doesn't like it, that's her problem. If she's a real friend she will get over it. If she doesn't want to be your friend because you hang out with him, then so be it.

Yeah that's fucking stupid. She broke up with him, that was her choice, not yours. She has no right to ask you tp not chill with him. Calling is understandable, but anything beyond is ridiculous. She's being irrational. I hate people like that, because you sever ties with someone, you expect everyone else to sever the same ties. Its selfish. Unless that person is going out of their way to continue to make the person they hurt feel like shit, then its totally acceptable for them to not want the person spreading the poison to their friends, but if its a fucking normal break up, she's going hard for no reason. Tell her you can be friends with whoever the hell you want!
