Alaska Campus - 07.05.12

Interviewed by
Alaska Campus - 07.05.12The following is a mini interview of generic questions that we posed to all bands that wanted to answer:

1. How did you get your band name?
We came up with the band name because Ryan and Dan who formed the band always said they wanted to travel to Alaska (but haven't had the chance). Campus just fitted perfectly and worked well with our student following.

2. How did this band get started?
We were all part of different bands. Ryan and Dan started writing music that wasn't fitting with their old band. Their music taste changed and they knew that they had to create something right for them and better. Alaska Campus was the outcome.

3. What bands are you influenced by?

Huge influences of ours are The Smiths, Bombay Bicycle Club, Kings Of Leon, Death Cab For Cutie, Said The Whale, and so on.

4. If you could tour with any bands, past or present, who would they be and why?

I think it would have to be either The Smiths or Kings Of Leon just because they are such heroes of ours. It would be amazing to see what they're like on a personal basis, learn from them, and hear stories of their band journey. Both have such good history.

5. Best food to eat on tour?

Pot Noodles. So many flavours in such a short space of time. Good to go.

6. Why should people listen to your band?

People should listen to Alaska Campus because our music is fresh, new, exciting, endearing, and our songs have a lot of story behind them. Alaska Campus make you feel good.

7. If you could be any athlete, which athlete would you switch places with?

It would 100% have to be Lionel Messi. Imagine being that good at football and having a profile of being the best footballer in the world! Pimp.

8. If you won a Grammy, who would you thank?

I would thank our families. It sounds cliche but you gotta do your families because they really do support us so much. Also The AC group, fans and friends that come to every show.

9. If you could change something about the music industry, what would it be?

We would have to say digital downloads. We know it sounds old fashioned and out dated to make such a statement but it was seriously fun going to HMV to purchase a new album or single. Obviously you can still do this but it seems that the records being sold are limited and it kind of destroys the logic of trekking to a record shop when we can just download it at home. So overall if the industry could change something then it would be cool for physical cd's to be the best way for people to collect music, just like it was when we were young.

10. Memorable tour experience?

We haven't yet been on tour. Saving the experience for when we are seriously established so all the memorable memories will be epic. We all strongly believe that going on tour is only worth it if we can support a big artists/band or being well established ourselves so that we can sell out a venues in towns we have never been before.

11. What does AP.net mean to you?

Absolute Punk has always been a must for us. Whenever in need to listen to something fresh then we always check out the reviews and find ourselves some new music.

12. What is your favorite song to play?

We absolutely love performing 'You, Me and the Sun' on stage. The fast tempo and vocal melodies create a lot of body movement from the crowd; a lot of strong energy.

13. What is your vacation spot of choice?

It would have to be Rome for us. We are always banging on about how much we need to go. If not Rome then Alaska all the way.

14. What music reminds you of your childhood?

100% has to be Busted! Charlie, Matt and James were kings of pop rock and gave us some sugar hype tunes.

15. If you could have any super power, what would it be? Why?

This is a hard one! We would have to say to be able to heal and live longer like Wolverine from x-men; always being able to live like a bad man and knowing that nothing is going to kill you.

16. Any pre-show superstitions or rituals?

Ryan always wears a black ribbon on his right wrist. Its kind of a good luck charm and has now been for so long that it wouldn't be right if he didn't.

17. What is something that most fans don't know about you?

To be honest I don't think there is anything. We are all very open and speak what we think.

18. What is your assessment of the current state of radio? Do you think it's a place where your band could flourish?

We think our music is liked by pretty much everyone and would be very successful if it got play on major radio.! We've got so many different age fans and even have people that don't particularly listen to our genre of music (for instance they are into more heavy metal) that enjoy and appreciate our music.

19. What do you like to do in your spare time?
We always try to get into London whenever we can and find new underground clubs etc. To be honest it's just mostly doing what every other young teenager does..... going out partying, meeting new people, going to gigs, etc

20. What kind of hidden talents do you have?
Ryan has a secret talent of drunken brake dancing... when we all start drinking the impossible gets attempted and in public clubs and pubs too. It is a must see.... haha.
