Don't listen to these Americans. Just move to England and you'll be fine. Awesome bands like Feeder and Biffy don't even need to come to America to succeed. Then there's Bloc Party and Muse. Trust me, you can stay in Europe and make music. America is completely different than anything you've experienced. I don't think you'll like it one bit.

Have you thought of a smaller jump? Amsterdam -> Berlin or -> London.

For the increased opportunities in the music world? Yes. For chosing to live in the US over The Netherlands? Hell no. You live in a far more interesting place IMO, I could see spending a few years here but you are lucky to come from such a unique place. If you wanted to live in North America I'd recommend Canada by far but that's just my opinion. Music is very easy to get into in North America and I know that you'd increase your chances here for sure.

move to England, form a band, and make 13173917139137 music videos like most bands overseas do.

see you at warped tour in a few years.

there you go.

Don't know where to recommend you move to for Pop-Punk. Just do not go to the Mid-West or the South. The North-East or anywhere west of Nebraska is great.

I'm glad you agree with me, out of curiosity though why?

He makes a good point.

England has a musical influence in North America disproportionate to their population, they're a lot closer, and the EU means it's much easier to emigrate to there. The US should only be considered an option if you have a real cultural affinity for the place.

Logistically speaking:

If you have the availability and the resources to move to the U.S.
it's following your dreams, I can't tell someone no to their dreams.

But you yourself said you're not going to do it for the money, but obviously you have to make a sustainability to be able to tour and play music
specially in the pop punk scene (bands come and go by the hundreds)

Not that, that shouldn't be a deterrent to following your dreams, but

A. Do you have the education to land a job in the U.S that makes more than minimum wages?

B. Do you have contacts here in this country that can help with finding a job/place to live/band mates?

C. Do you have recorded music material to show prospective bandmates?

Culturally, Canadians have a much more European way of life. The design of their country is way different, much more European. Kids actually walk to school. There's trains and buses. It's not degrading to actually use public transportation like it is in America (other than NY). Their way of life is much more similar to Europeans than Americans. Money doesn't drive them, they don't have nearly as much stress, they are a cultural mosaic and not a melting pot similar to England and France. You can keep your culture. If you're from India and wear a turban, then you can wear it proudly in Canada, not so much in America. Canada doesn't force conformity, America does. Keeping up with the Jones's doesn't exist in Canada. Bottom line, Canada is the Europe of North America. He'll feel more at home there, the cultural shock of America will be too extreme. that's why I agree with you

You don't even know him...

Edit: Out of curiosity, where in America did you get/have to stay in your visit? Also I don't know what Keeping Up With The Jones' is so I guess we don't have it either.

The only reason I suggested LA was mostly because it's a place where your degree can be applied (should you network and find a job), but I gotta agree with some others, if you want to not have as much stress as the job-situation brings then why not England? It's much closer to home should problems arise and you're not a world away. And I'm sure you can find as many musicians trying to be in a band there than you even would out here. It just seems more safe of an idea, especially job-wise.

I know a few people who live their and I know how it is. I read all the tips/advices and replies and I'm gonna see what I'm going to do. Maybe go for a long vacation or something (My financial status is stable right now so I can afford something like that) to find out if I still like it there. I know a vacation is something else than actually living there but It could definitely help with making a decision. Thanks everyone for your advice and help and when I really know what I want I will definitely post it here! I will also check out if England isnt an option. Never thought about it that way so thanks!
