can someone break this down in to words i can understand?
Doctor prescribes him medicine.
(Possibly another) Doctor prescribes him medicine.
Some kind of drug, an "Opiate", as it's referred to in the press release. Possibly just sleeping medicine?
Those don't go well when all in your system sometimes, depending on amounts.
Me too. My dad is on both of those kinds of medication. People keep overlooking the part where it says opiate, they think that he ODed on his prescription drugs but the article doesn't say that at all.
i think people are misreading it, thinking that the two things listed after it fall into the category of opiates.
or judging from these responses, people just can't read.

Two medicines don't work well together.
yeah, but any doctor i have ever been to has always asked me if im on any other prescriptions or medication.
and they should know not to prescribe another medicine that would react with a previous one.
Yeah this doesn't mean he was abusing drugs at all. I've got a good friend who is bi-polar. Her doctor prescribes seizure medication to help with it. She is also on anti-depressants.
"acute combined effects" sounds like an interaction between the drugs, rather than an overdose.
i don't know his personal history, but the last two sound like they could have actually been prescribed to him for some panic disorder. no idea about the opiates though.
Ok. But it's hard to believe that this is the first time that he took the drugs together, unless he was just prescribed to them.

He was on Celexa, which has adverse effects such as Suicidal ideations in some cases. It was also stated it was substance abuse not that of a drug interaction. There isn't much on reaction between the two drugs, so if he wasn't supposed to take the two together his doctor would've told him.

MAYBE his doctor would have told him. Medical malpractice does still happen quite often. The way the cause is worded sounds to me like standard ME wording to not point fingers at the doctor OR the victim. Doctors cover each others ass all the time.
