I did. the band was He is Legend. The show was Norma Jean/He is Legend/Maylene and the sons of disaster/The Showdown in January 2007 in Birmingham, England. The first two bands were boring stoner/classic rock influenced post-hardcore, but the crowd received them well enough. Most people were there for the two main bands. He is Legend had got a fairly big fanbase in the UK, off their first album. nothing too big, but certainly big enough to play the slot they had. For some reason when they got on stage they played nothing off the first album, and instead they relied solely off the second album, which if you know the band, you'll know didn't go down so well with their fanbase whether for valid reasons or otherwise. The crowd dosen't seem that bothered, until for reasons best known to the band themselves they go into what can only be described as a Phish style extended instrumental jam. We were only there for Norma Jean so we weren't paying attention, but suddenly as the jam finished after 6-7 minutes there was a loud and sustained chorus of booing from nearly everyone in the room that lasted 20-30 seconds before an uncomfortable silence filled the venue. Me and my friends didn't join in it must be added.

Whilst it did show a lack of respect to He Is Legend to boo them, I did understand why the crowd reacted like that. If you are losing the crowd with new material, then the best thing to do is play some older songs to get the momentum back. You don't channel the spirit of Phish in a room full of kids who basically want you to play something they can dance to. The band got on with a few more songs after that, but it wasn't the same as before, they knew they lost crowd, and the crowd knew that they knew they'd lost them. People were more interested in talking to one another often with their back to the stage and certainly not as close to to the stage as they'd previously been. It was the first night of their European tour with Norma Jean, but I do wonder if He Is Legend still played the same set as they did in Birmingham that night.

I have only heard within living memory of that happening to a non-local band and that was when Type O Negative played Birmingham in around the same time period and the band went on 50 minutes late and Pete Steele was so out of it for whatever reason, he couldn't play his instrument or sing in time or tune but I didn't personally witness that one (it was legendary locally for a while). Just wondering how often such things happen and if its just that Birmingham is a tough crowd?

He Is Legend is up there for worst ever live performance, so I'm not surprised.

I can see why a bunch of emo girls and boys wouldn't be into Corey though..

I'm just waiting for all the thousand folks from that Skiba&The Sekrets show to flood this thread. I haven't really seen booing at non-local shows but I have been to farrrr too many shows where half the crowd leaves for a bands set. Yet, when An Angle played in my hometown way back in the day I think people might have heckled them for playing terribly...

They were horrendous when I saw them at Purple Door in 2006(?). They totally phoned it in. Granted, I adore I Am Hollywood and maybe enjoy one song on Suck Out The Poison, so I was surely biased, but still.

I don't think anyone should boo a band just because they don't enjoy the music that they're playing. Show some respect. Now if Peter Steele shows up an hour late and is too fucked up to perform, then that's a different story.

I'm sure I've seen bands get booed more than once, but the one time that stands out is when I went to see System of a Down in 2002. Clutch and Mindless Self Indulgence opened. I don't think Clutch got much of a response but no one really cared either way. MSI however played at least a half hour set and got booed the entire time. Someone even ripped a chair out (that was bolted down... maybe it was broken or had come loose, I don't know) and threw it at the singer. The singer didn't get hit, but I think it actually amused him.

This is happened twice:

I saw alice in chains a few years back open for velvet revolver. After their set, the drummer came to the mic and said "thanks alot miami its fun to be this far south. Problem is that we were in west palm beach.

also, saw miranda lambert at the same venue and she siad "how is it going TAMPA" several times. both bands were booed feverishly

Saw them in '08 at a festival as well, and I kid you not they showed up a half an hour before they started, didn't bring (forgot?) their equipment, had to use Emery's instruments, brought no merch, and looked like they hadn't slept in 3 days. Now, granted the last part a lot of bands don't have a chance to sleep and whatnot, but this was their first show in a couple weeks. It was just plain ridiculous.

A few dudes were booing Fall Out Boy when I saw them on Blink's reunion tour. Not en masse, but I still found it to be very annoying.

I saw The Secret Handshake get it pretty bad at a Bring Me The Horizon show. They were booed the whole time near the end about 70% of the crowd sat down....so awkward/uncomfortable. Not a fan of The Secret Handshake but a lot of respect for them carrying on and trying to put a good show for the people enjoying them.
