Alright, so I felt the need for a new thread with some discussion topics. I just hate that this place is going down so let's get some life in here, guys.
First: Let's discuss albums with fantastic lyrics. Name a few of your favorites, possibly not well-known ones.
Second: Let's discuss my netlabel I'm working on and will hopefully have up by the end of February. I'm really excited about it, I just hate I'm so busy it keeps being slowed down.
Third: Let's discuss the greatness of Sunny Day Real Estate and the vinyl of theirs I'm going to get off ebay soon. It's beautiful.
Fourth: Let's talk about how we started writing lyrics. What got us going and how we got better. So on...
Fifth: Let's talk about each other, we've all been posting lyrics in here for a good amount of time and know not only ourselves but also each other pretty well, I think.
Sixth: Let's all look back into our own lyrics posted on here and post the shittiest, haha. Even I will do this and I'll even say a bit about it...
Alrighty, let's do this. I know the other one is still there but come on, let's get some discussions going. I've been writing a bit more lately.
First: Psh, I'll do this later. I quite like Okkervil River recently.
Second: Netlabels will get you so many
girls. Actually, I've kind of thought the idea was stupid. Would you like to tell me why
this is a good idea for a band? I don't get it... you can do this all yourself, as a band, and if you're not going to do it yourself, you shouldn't even bother being a band because you're lazy bastards. I'd love to discuss this with you though.
Third: SDRE owns. What album did you get? (P.S. I lost the Promise Ring 7"
But I did get my Days in December/Sweater Weather split for 99 cents!)
Fourth: Jack's Mannequin and Eisley, surprisingly. I can post up the first real
"lyrics" I wrote (albeit without music...), although I'd been writing poetry and fiction stories for years before that... I've always written stories. It's kind of what kept me entertained as a kid... I still haven't gotten better, by the way. I think what you have to do though is to really have something you want to say. Things don't have to be personal
, but they have to have a point.
Fifth: Josiah's writing has always been exceptional, but lately, I feel like he's become the best writer here... Upsettingly, I feel like his music does not showcase his lyrics at all... Matt Rawlings is the best songwriter. He's got a great ear for what sounds good, and writes some incredible, breathtaking lyrics and melodies. Tariq has recently become incredible. He's always been good, but damn, he's stepped it up. In fact, everyone else has gotten better, I've completely dropped out of the game...
